There is a lot of talk about 'change', the need for a 'new politics' and people power in this election. But which parties are offering real reform? Which ones are would protect your rights, your freedoms and your personal privacy? This website aims to help you find out.
We have looked at the published policies of all the main parties standing in Great Britain* and assessed their policies according to five key themes:
On this site you can compare how each party has scored either by looking at a single party in detail or exploring how all the parties do in each area. Crucially, we don't just give you the score but show you how it has been calculated to enable you to draw your own conclusions.
This project has been developed by Unlock Democracy, the UK's leading campaign for democracy, rights and freedoms. If you like this project please support us by making a donation. If you agree with our aims, why not join?
Unlock Democracy is not aligned to any political party and does not endorse anyone in this election. We do not claim that democratic reform and human rights are the only issue in this election that you should take into account. We do however believe they are important considerations and urge you to factor them in when deciding how to vote.
* The Northern Irish parties have not been included in the main part of this project because we were not able to find enough published policy on our areas to make a meaningful comparison. We will review this as the party manifestos are published and hope to produce a supplemental report on Northern Ireland prior to the election.
Unlock Democracy (incorporating Charter 88) is the UK's leading campaign for democracy, rights and freedoms. A grassroots movement, we are owned and run by our members.
Unlock Democracy was founded in November 2007 following the merger of Charter 88 and the New Politics Network.
How we are funded: Unlock Democracy is funded from three main sources: grant income for specific projects from various foundations and trusts, subscriptions and donations from our members and supporters and income from our subsidiary company Rodell Properties Ltd. This project is entirely funded out of Unlock Democracy's own resources.
You can find more information about Unlock Democracy, including its accounts, constitution and major grants, by visiting the Unlock Democracy website.
